The Naked Gardener by LB Gschwandtner

Artist Katelyn Cross loves Greg Mazur and he loves her. He wants to be married but a previous relationship that went sour has made Katelyn overly cautious about any permanent commitment. And what about Greg’s first wife? He lost her to cancer and Katelyn worries that he’s only looking for a replacement. What’s a girl to do? Canoe down a river with five gal pals, camp out, catch fish, talk about life and men. The problem is, a river can be as unpredictable as any relationship and just as hard to manage. On their last day, when the river turns wild, the women face the challenge of a lifetime and find that staying alive means saving themselves first while being open to help from a most unlikely source. As Katelyn navigates the raging water, she learns how to overcome her fear of change in a world where nothing stays the same. When Katelyn returns to her garden, she’ll face one more obstacle and the naked gardener will meet the real Greg Mazur.

I loved the earthiness of this book -- not just in the garden of the title, but also in the very real characters struggling with very real issues in a setting that strips away the trappings and technological complexities of modern life. LB Gschwandtner's rich, observant prose brings the book's Vermont setting to life right alongside the core characters, to whom women everywhere will relate on many levels. A must-read for summer!

Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love

Our protagonist is Cinderella, of course - everbody knows her story. Cindy underwent one of the most radical revisions of the major Fables characters, becoming a super-spy in the service of Fabletown, while operating under the cover of running a shoe store. It's not especially connected to her past backstory, which might make it seem a bit random, but Willingham in the past has been able to write a very plausible spy, and Roberson likewise proves up to the task. In this instance, Cindy is on the trail of a magical weapons shipment that has reportedly been sent into the Mundy world. In pursuit of her task, she travels to Dubai (the Las Vegas of the Middle East), and finds herself teamed up with none other than Aladdin, who is operating on behalf of the Arabian Fable world. The two form your typical spy movie duo, and proceed on the case. The result includes some follow-up on the "Arabian Nights (and Days)" story arc in the "Fables" title, as well as a reappearance by a certain important figure in Cinderella's past.

You know... sometimes, it's amazing!

After the act, you discover that was the greatest, hottest moment with your partner... It was begun like usualy, like a furious volcanoe (yeah, for us, it's normal), and there is a detail who change all the sweet and sexy moment in a glorious act. Yeah, talk about orgasm, but not like usualy, it's a magic, precious instant... I hope you feel that sometimes...

Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon

Woooooo, after a good while of playing Rune Factory 3 I absolutely love it. The system is nice, the time advances even in buildings so you have to pace your work, the combat system is also a lot better than the past games. The system is definitely an improvement from it's predecessors. Hell, the weather system is also dynamic since it can change mid-day. Of course, that means hurricanes mid-day which are absolutely trolls. At least the game allows you to work during hurricanes as well as visit the other characters.
The party system is also very good, since you can now invite villagers to fight with you in dungeons and stuff. None of the villagers are any good at first until you've actually leveled them up or raised their stats by giving them certain items. Their favorite items of course heal them quite a bit.
The only problem I had was most likely the depth of the story, the dungeons are amazingly short. They could be longer, a lot longer. Of course, they give you another dungeon in the Sharance Tree that Micah, the main character, lives in. A randomly generated dungeon that can give items and can be used for general training, not farming of course.
If I had to say one thing it would be: If you ever play Rune Factory 3, you will never go back to 1, 2, or Frontier ever again. That's my opinion though.

In the tube, again!

Yeah, fuckin six-monthes winter!!!

Steal the Dragon (Sianim, No. 2)

Those who have come to Patricia Briggs having read "Moon Called" will find that this book is very different in style from that werewolf/vampire story. "Steal The Dragon" is a fantasy like "Dragon Bones" and "Dragon Blood" as well as her "Raven's" duology. Despite the use of the word "Dragon" in the title of this book it isn't related to the other two dragon books - the only occurrence of "Steal the Dragon" in this book is as a game rather like Chess.
Rialla is an ex-slave working as a horse trainer in Sianim. She comes to the attention of the Spymaster as she is an empathy as well as an ex-slave. Machinations are afoot in a neighbour land, the place where Rialla was formerly a slave, and the Spymaster wishes her to travel, along with Laeth, a mercenary, to that land to see if they can prevent the assassination of Laeth's brother who is working for peace and the end of slavery in his land.
Of course things don't go as planned and Laeth ends up arrested for the murder of his brother. Rialla is severely injured but is nursed back to health by Tris, the local healer. She soon works out that there's more to Tris than meets the eye as his healing abilities seem almost magical - in a world where magic is feared. Tris and Rialla plot to rescue Laeth from his death sentence for killing his brother but this opens a whole new can of worms.
There are many interesting aspects to this book. Rialla's former life as a slave makes very good background, the way in which slaves have to damp down their emotions, the way in which they become dehumanised after a long period in slavery and the dangers in which Rialla places herself in returning voluntarily to slavery as a disguise. The book has a lot of magic in it which sometimes I felt was a little annoying - if there's a problem then someone has the magical ability to deal with it - but the story is very interesting and it's not always clear what's going to happen. The baddies and goodies also have more depth to them than one might expect.
As in "Dragon Blood", Patricia Briggs isn't afraid of giving her characters an awful time and Rialla has to cope with a lot that heroines normally manage to escape by the skin of their teeth. Perhaps that's part of the appeal of this heroine - she is a strong lady who is able to make rational judgements about very difficult issues. Her slow-burn romance with Tris is nicely written.
Overall I enjoyed this book more than "Dragon Bones" and "Dragon Blood" as the story was easier to follow (less politics and less places to try to keep track of). It was an easy read and being a single volume pretty much tied up all the loose ends, bar a few. An enjoyable book for a quiet day.

Just a picture for fun, big booty of me!

When Demons Walk (Sianim)

This is a fantastic book! I read it in less than twelve hours, and that's with working and eating in the middle of that!
Where to begin? The characters are wonderful. Sham is a complex character, with a painful past but the strong will to survive it and move on. She is wily enough to survive life in Purgatory, the Southwoods slum, yet tender-hearted enough to learn to care for people she was used to hating. Kerim is humorous, regal, dangerous, and intelligent--all the things we want from a hero! The supporting characters are wonderful; Dickon, Elris, Talbot, Lady Sky all make the story better with their special personalities.
The writing is great. The dialogue is excellent, with witty repartee between the characters that is absolutely believable and absolutely hysterical. The description of surroundings and clothes are wonderfully detailed. I could see the action in my mind as I read. My one complaint about the writing would be the infrequent shifts in the third-person point-of-view; usually the POV character was Sham, but very occasionally is changed to Kerim, the demon, and a couple others.
The plot is intriguing...a demon stalking the halls of the Castle, with a thief/magician hired to pose as the Reeve's Mistress in order to solve the mystery. And though you may have suspicions about the demon's identity, your first two guesses will be wrong!
I highly recommend this book, and I am actively seeking out others by this author!

I love to see you when you're between my legs...

And Then Came Lola

I love lesbians who don't take themselves too seriously. This film is about lesbians and how lesbians feel about other lesbians, friends, lovers, and former lovers. Gosh, the world is lesbian for a day and it's great. As lovable, but slightly disorganized, Lola (Ashleigh Sumner) dashes across San Francisco to deliver some prints her girlfriend Casey (Jill Bennett) needs for a meeting, you have to wonder--will she ever get the girl? I won't ruin it, but just watching her try, over and over and over again (Groundhog Day anyone?) is entertaining and fun. The film also manages to find a way to the audience to some beautiful, sexy scenes. It helps that the actresses in those scenes are OUT lesbians. No straight girls pretending to be gay here (thank god). Lesbians playing lesbians in a world that is lesbian every which way you look.....I mean, what could be better? The cinematography is a cut above and San Francisco has never looked so beautiful. Also, the soundtrack is great!

Smiiile!

In bed with... Ele! is it a fantasy for you? Nope, I guess, however, I wait for my boy, who's very far of me and our cold cold bed. It's hard to wait for him, but I'm very buzy!!! So, go to work!!!

Sun, where are you?

I'm hungry for sun! and for cookie dough! and for my man! and for the boobies of Cameron! I'm starving! Anybody satisfy me?

Inception... Rawrrr!

In the 2010 movie summer we were desperate for a really good movie. Something really smart, clever, action packed, and suspenseful. And knowing Christopher Nolan, we were going to get more than what we bargained for. This is easily the best movie of 2010. This movie combines the elements of what we love in a movie, hotel fights (Zero-G, nice touch), mountain fortress brawls, etc. After what we had this year, we may have been desperate, but Nolan is our savior. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a very complicated character, only a handful of people couldve done what he did. Both films that he was in this year bended our minds (Shutter Island and Inception). Joseph Gordon Levitt plays a very likeable character. Ken Watanabe is very dark character, in the beginning you think he is the antagonist, but it turns out he is not the bad guy. Ellen Page plays as "the newbie" in this film, new in this field of work. Tom Hardy also plays as a very cool character, he holds some comic relief in tormenting Joseph Gordon Levitt at some parts. Dileep Rao plays as a very likeable character as well, he knows his stuff. Cillian Murphy is the target or client in this movie. Marion Cotillard plays as the antagonist, and every time she appears it widens your eyes cause you know something will happen. If mindbending was a martial art in The Last airbender (which it failed to do, at least we still have that epic show) Christopher Nolan mastered it. No character is annoying, every character is likeable. You feel bad for Leo in this movie. And the ending will make you throw a fit because it brings that good "awwww" not because it is bad. This is an instant classic, in 20 years people will look back and say "Inception is a true classic."

Big kiss from a wet country!

American Psycho (Uncut Killer Collector's Edition)

To put it in colloquial terms, Christian Bale `rocks!' In actuality, a casual and modest Brit, for American Psycho, Bale transforms absolutely into his worst nightmare: a psychotic, American serial killer with a touch of pathetic nerdiness. He, along with his co-workers in mergers and executions...(ehem)...acquisitions (Bateman makes the same mistake in the movie), as well as society for that matter, are ridiculously obsessed with pop culture materialism. Brand named clothing, professional-looking business cards, modern apartment buildings, and lots and lots of money are just a few of the things at the top of Patrick Bateman's priority list. Bateman is a seemingly normal business executive who treats his secretary with friendly dignity, shmoozes with his colleagues, and leads a healthy personal life. However, he hides a solitary dark secret that no one knows (or believes, even after being told). Patrick Bateman has a severe, uncontrollable lust for blood. As Bateman attempts to survive under the everyday pressures of life, he is further antagonized by his own primal urges. What begins as an occasional nightly killing transpires into a rampage of wild murders, regardless of the hour of day. Bateman descends deeper and deeper into his nightmare until he reaches a point where there is no returning to reality. He has gone over the limit. He no longer has any knowledge of who he is. Patrick Bateman is lost forever. When Christian Bale steps into the role of Patrick Bateman, sparks fly. His performance is so powerful, that it will undoubtedly grip its audience (whether they like the film on the whole or not). His character is unique and exotic to the viewer; nevertheless to the movie's various characters, he appears to be ridiculously ordinary and harmless. The audience is taken into the mindset of this madman struggling to lead a normal life, and they are scared stiff of him, at the same time as being strangely endeared towards him (like The Talented Mr. Ripley, only less dramatically). We look at Bateman as such an exaggerated caricature of modern materialistic society that he becomes dreadfully funny. The movie, with its milder gore than the original novel by Bret Easton Ellis, is doused with some good humor and clever subtexts, most notably, the materialism already described. The brilliance of American Psycho lies in its ability to hold the viewer captive while dragging him into the lifestyle of its main character, being capable of squeezing laughter out of him, as well as being able to scare him to death. Much of this credit is owed to director Mary Harron for her skillful interpretation of the film and beautiful (if that is the right word for it) shooting of the film. In the end, American Psycho is a colorful piece of modern-day, avant-garde, in many ways disgusting artistry that just so happens to involve a perverse murderer. Though it is highly controversial, and a large percentage of people will not enjoy this film, I found it to be interesting and entertaining.

Autumn? Not for me, thank you!

Oooooow, I hate this freaky cold season, this bloody temperatures downing to the freezing fucking cold! So, if I cannot warm me except with my winter clothes, I warmth you with picta!!!! Always frozen? Sorry, I'm not Wolden or Cameron! Just ya freakin monsta Ele!

The Runaways

The Runaways (aka: Neon Angels) is based on lead-singer Cherie Currie's book 'Neon Angel' - a reflection of her experiences as a rock star, but also delivering a strong anti-drug warning to teens and others. David Bowie's "Space Oddity" serves as a metaphor for the narrative-- a slow countdown, a surreal but spectacular rise to fame, then alienation and burnout - a long long way from home.
The movie chronicles THE RUNAWAYS from 1975 - 1977; an all-girl rock band formed by teenage girls living near Hollywood, CA., and heavily manipulated by their manager Kim Fowley as 'jailbait rock' (all the girls were 16 or younger when the band recorded their first album). The band ultimately succeeds on their own merits as musicians, becoming the first all-girl rock-band to ever break into the world of arena-filling hard rock acts.
The movie focuses on the band's formation, and their meteoric rise to fame. Their first single, 'Cherry Bomb', gets some attention in the United States, where THE RUNAWAYS' U.S. tour hits major venues (Cobo Hall, with RUSH) and sleazy rock-clubs, often pairing them up with other rock groups such as The Ramones, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty, and other popular 1970's rock acts. But 'Cherry Bomb' and several other songs from THE RUNAWAYS' first 2 albums become huge hits in Japan -- and their arrival for a set of shows there in 1977 is like Beatle-Mania. The band is overwhelmed by the Japanese reception. Almost prophetic, THE RUNAWAYS' last big hit song in Japan is 'Neon Angels On The Road To Ruin'.
Cherie is initially thrilled to be in the band, and lives the rock star life. She pushes the edge -- and their records sell well, generating lots of media controversy and hype. But during the tour of Japan, her personal life disnintegrates, and she burns out -- ultimately leaving The Runaways when they return to the U.S. The bass player (Jackie Fox) quits too, leaving only Lita Ford, Joan Jett and Sandy West. Joan Jett has decided that rock & roll is her life, and that The Runaways is her 'family'; she is upset by Cherie's decision to leave, but knows that decision is best -- for Cherie.

I'm... alright!
